Cory Wong might just be your new favorite guitar player. The Minneapolis-based musician has put in his time as a versatile composer, arranger, producer, and collaborator, working on shows like NBC’s “The Voice,” playing alongside Questlove, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Bootsy Collins, Blake Shelton, and joining the fast-rising funk band Vulfpeck as a touring and session guitarist.

Cory Wong is also the jedi-master secret weapon of Vulfpeck‘s most recent studio release The Beautiful Game. He contributed to seven of the ten tracks on The Beautiful Game, more than any other collaborator in Vulf history. Vulf-fans can also recognize his name from the final track of the album (titled “Cory Wong”) or perhaps from his recent performances with Vulfpeck (he’s performed with them on every date since the album’s release).

His expert playing and diverse influences have kept him in demand around the world and around the clock, but he remains loyal to his Midwestern home. Dubbed “the most famous Minnesota musician you’ve probably never heard of” by Minneapolis’ The Current, Cory Wong is finally jumping into the spotlight with his new album “Cory Wong and the Green Screen Band”.

Wong’s playing is inspired by local guitar legends Prince and Dean Magraw, as well as Jeff Beck and Pat Metheny. However, it is on this album that Wong hones his own voice as a musician.

The record was composed and produced with a massive all-star cast of featured musicians, including Antwaun Stanley, Cody Fry, Steve Goold, Ian Allison, Michael Bland, Sonny T, Kevin Gastonguay, Darnell Davis, and the Hornheads horn section.

Produced in Minneapolis, the album tracks were recorded simultaneously with the footage that goes on to form the remarkable centerpiece of the Cory Wong visual experience. His remarkable synthesis of the MPLS SOUND with his own brand of funky multimedia and unique visual aesthetic has reached its apex with this release, which finds his Stratocaster chops spotlighted amongst the expert production, both video and audio. Wong has released music videos before, but the visual aspect of this album is especially salient. His whimsical videos, like his music, have a sense of humor.
